Why should I get Vaccinated? Millions of people in the United States of America and around the world have gotten the COVID-19 vaccines since December 2020. Available data show that the three vaccines authorized in the US (Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) are safe and effective against the current known variants of the COVID. Studies show that the authorized COVID-19 vaccines are effective at reducing the risk of people getting serious COVID-19 infection that may lead to hospitalization and death. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine will also reduce your risk of getting and spreading disease to others especially the young children who are currently not eligible to get vaccinated. This makes getting vaccination responsibility for all eligible persons to protect ourselves, young children and other vulnerable community members. The COVID-19 vaccines do not contain the COVID-19 virus and cannot cause COVID-19. How does the COVID-19 Vaccine Work? COVID-19 vaccines teach our immune systems to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. It takes 2 weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19. That means that a vaccinated person could still get COVID-19 before or just after vaccination. People are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, or 2 weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.
